4 min read

Prepared: Wednesday, October 28, 2026 | Region: Hidalgo County, Rio Grande Valley

Status of all claims: Allegations only. Ayala Jr. is presumed innocent; no conviction or court finding has been reported.

Ramón Ayala Jr., son of Grammy-winning norteño accordionist Ramón Ayala, turned himself in to the Hidalgo Police Department on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, on a warrant for felony sexual assault. He was booked, arraigned, and released the same day on a $2,000 bond. The charge stems from an alleged Aug. 10, 2025 incident involving a male accuser, and it is the first criminal case to emerge from a series of civil lawsuits filed in Hidalgo County since February 2026.

What the complaint alleges (KRGV, citing the arrest report and criminal complaint): While the man was at Ayala Sr.'s home and aboard the tour bus, Ayala Jr. allegedly grabbed him around the waist, reached inside his shorts, and groped his genitals. The man says he tried to resist and push Ayala Jr. away.

Who spoke: Buzbee, who represents the accuser, called the arrest a "positive step" for his clients. The accuser is identified only as "John Doe." No statement from Hidalgo PD, the Hidalgo County District Attorney, or Ayala Jr. himself appears in the reports reviewed.

The Civil Lawsuits (Hidalgo County)

All were filed by the Buzbee Law Firm (Tony Buzbee and Crystal Del Toro). Defendants include Ayala Jr., Ayala Sr. (accused of enabling or inadequate supervision), the band, and linked business entities such as Liram LLC.

Reported court calendar (Tejano Nation, citing jail records; verify against the docket): trial Dec. 7, 2026 (third case); jury trial Jan. 19, 2027 (second case); pretrial hearing Mar. 23, 2027 (first case). Note that KRGV described the dates as trials in December, January and March, but the March entry is reported as a pretrial hearing.

Open question: Reports do not say whether the man in the criminal case is one of the civil plaintiffs.

Responses From the Ayala Camp

  • Ayala Sr. (Feb. 2026 statement): Said the reports "deeply hurt" his group, fans and family; that some people "without foundation" are trying to take advantage and tarnish his legacy; and that his legal team is working to clarify the facts.

  • Jeff Lehrman, attorney for Ayala Jr. (May 2026, KRGV): Said his client denies all accusations and likened the conduct to the film "Jackass."

  • Ayala Sr.'s attorneys (May 2026): Called the campaign a "media assault designed to intimidate, harass, and coerce Ayala into a settlement" and a "shakedown," and argued Ayala Sr. should not be named. They played a recording in which accuser Eluid Gonzalez, a bassist, answered "no" when asked whether he had seen Ayala Jr. abuse anyone; Gonzalez said he was "threatened, abused, and mistreated."

  • Band lawyers (per Tejano Nation): Described the civil claims as a "money grab" and the conduct as consensual horseplay.

  • Buzbee's counter: Said his firm would cooperate with criminal authorities while pursuing the civil claims. He had asked the Hidalgo County DA to investigate in May and shown videos he said depict Ayala Jr. nude and touching another man (not independently verified).

No response to the arrest from Ayala Jr. or his attorneys was found in the sources reviewed.

What Is Not Yet Known

  • Formal charging instrument, indictment status, and next court date in the criminal case.

  • Whether Hidalgo PD or the DA will comment, and any plea.

  • Conditions of release, including whether the protective order restricts contact.

  • Whether the criminal accuser overlaps with the civil plaintiffs.

  • Impact on tour dates and the band's business.

Reliability Notes

  • Most detail on the civil suits originates from the plaintiffs' counsel; the defense disputes it.

  • The second-degree felony classification and the court dates come from a single outlet (Tejano Nation). KSAT and KRGV did not state them.

  • KRGV and KSAT dates differ slightly in wording (KSAT inferred Oct. 23 from a Friday arrest); jail records cited by KRGV give Oct. 23.

  • Two sources (NewsNation, ValleyCentral) could not be retrieved. Treat this report as current to Oct. 28, 2026 and update as filings appear.
